WHY TWITTER?

Since Friends of Ash Hollow is a non-profit, Twitter is a cheap and easy way to get a quick message out there. It is a great marketing tool. You can connect with people you might not necessarily meet otherwise. It’s a great way to keep people updated; if event plans changed or they needed volunteers this would be a fast way to get the message out there, with typically no cost. Twitter allows tweets up to 140 characters which means your message must be short and to the point. People are more likely to stop and read something if it isn’t paragraphs and paragraphs of information.
The hashtag on Twitter is a great way to snag people’s attention that probably would’ve never thought to visit Ash Hollow. If someone mentions they’re going to Lake McConnaughy and need other things to do you can check that hashtag and reply to their tweet with information.
By communicating with people through Twitter it gives people the sense that you’re “in-the-know” or “with it.” People might initially see Friends of Ash Hollow kind of a dull organization or not understand what it is about. Twitter is a good way to get snippets of information out there in a way that is more with the times.
Twitter is also a great way to promote your blog, website, other social media accounts, and upcoming events. For a small organization that doesn’t have a lot of money to spend, like FoAH, this is a great advantage. You can also check your analytics to see how many people you are actually reaching.
