In the winter of 2015 it became public that the Nebraska Game and Parks (NGP) planned to turn Ash Hollow State Historical Park into an ATV track. The NGP thought this track would be beneficial due to lack of visitation and revenue being generated in the park. What they didn't realize was what they were about to destroy and how important this historical park is to its locals.

When the public found out an uproar, in this tiny community, began. Outraged, the citizens organized a group to protest. Over 100 citizens signed a petition against the track. The NGP plan's were squelched by the dissent of these ardent, local citizens.

In order to keep the park from being torn down in the future the NGP said that the park would need to increase its visitation. They suggested that a friends group be organized to help plan activities to draw people to the park. Thus began the journey of the Friends of Ash Hollow (FoAH). "The FOAH oversees the most significant historical park in Nebraska as this park represent the making of the west and the formation and strength of this great country," Friends of Ash Hollow board member, Clint Livingston, says.

Ash Hollow isn't some silly park that can just be torn down for recreation! The FoAH will make sure that this never happens. "Friends of Ash Hollow is a a passionate group that holds the park dear to their hearts and we look forward to creating events and activities that share our treasure with visitors of all ages," DeAnn Beard, President of FoAH, says.
