WHO WE ARE
The Friends of Ash Hollow is a non-profit organization that was established in 2015.
Their objective is to preserve and protect the natural beauty and history of Ash Hollow State Park.
They have 75 dedicated volunteers.
The main goals of this organization is to increase the visitation of the state park and educate people of the rich history that took place there.
WHAT WE HAVE DONE
On January 1st, they organized an Opening Day walk. The members led a hike around Ash Hollow and educated attendees about the park. The day also ended with a soup lunch.
Family Fun and Fish Day was an event for families to bring their kids and go fishing in the pond at Ash Hollow. Members taught kids how to bate their hook, properly cast their poles, and identify certain types of fish.
Halloween in the Hollow was another event Friends of Ash Hollow organized. It included haunted hay rides that educated kids about the history of the park and the Oregon Trail, games, treats for the kids, and arts and crafts.
Lectures in the park was a day of education for attendees. Dr. Tim Hanson came and lectured on the fur traders and the Battle of Blue water which happened north of Lewellen.
At the night time event, Star Parties, stargazing out on the bluffs of Ash Hollow was led by an amateur astrologist who explained the night sky.
